Gibbs Receives Guardian of Small Business Award
COLUMBUS: State Representative Bob Gibbs has been designated a Guardian of Small Business by the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) Ohio Chapter for his outstanding leadership on behalf of the small business community.
According to Mr. Ty Pine, State Director of the NFIB Ohio, Representative Gibbs is only the 34th recipient of this award, and only one of two current members of the Ohio General Assembly to have this prestigious award. “While Main Street has many friends in the state legislature, Representative Gibbs has taken the lead on key legislative issues that impact Ohio small business owners’ ability to grow the economy,” Pine said.
Representative Gibbs is an experienced small business owner and understands the difficulties entrepreneurs here in Ohio face day in and day out. Representative Gibbs was the primary sponsor of legislation during the 125th General Assembly which protected restaurant owners and food manufacturers from being subjected to obesity-related lawsuits. That legislation was eventually incorporated into the Comprehensive Tort Reform Package the General Assembly passed last December and which was signed in January by Governor Taft.
Representative Gibbs was also the sponsor of House Bill 223, which provided for a rebutable presumption in employee drug testing following workplace accidents which ensures that employees who are legitimately injured on the job receive the workers compensation benefits they deserve.
“It is a tremendous honor to receive such a prestigious award from the NFIB,” Gibbs said. “As a member of the NFIB, I understand all to well the issues small business entrepreneurs face and have done my best to represent those interests in a balanced manner with the best interests of the State of Ohio” Gibbs continued.
Representative Gibbs received his award during a small Statehouse Ceremony from NFIB Ohio Leadership Council Chairman Frank Ciotola and NFIB Ohio State Director Ty Pine. Also receiving recognition was former Senate President Doug White. Mr. White is currently director of the State Department of Commerce.

Gibbs Receives Watchdog of the Treasury Award
COLUMBUS: State Representative Bob Gibbs was among a handful of legislators to receive the Watchdog of the Treasury Award from the United Conservatives of Ohio.
This award is presented every two years to members of the Ohio General Assembly who work to keep government spending and growth in check, both through legislation they sponsor and through there voting record in their respective chambers.
Representative Gibbs was the sponsor of seven pieces of legislation during the 125th General Assembly, none of which added to the cost of government.
“This is indeed a tremendous honor to be honored with this award,” Gibbs said. “Our number one priority as legislators should be to reduce the cost of government and work to promote private enterprise.” Gibbs continued.
April 26, 2005 Ohio Manufacturers Association Praises Gibbs for Vote on Budget Bill
Working men and women of Ashland, Holmes and Medina counties should make a point of saying “thank you” to State Representative Bob Gibbs for his “yes” vote on House Bill 66 this past Tuesday. The bill now moves on to the Ohio Senate for further consideration. His support of this legislation, which contained much-needed tax reforms initially introduced by Governor Taft, will do more to encourage investment in Ohio companies and their workers, and to protect and create manufacturing jobs in our state, than any single piece of legislation in years. Ohio’s outdated, anti-competitive tax system has been a significant contributing factor in the loss of 200,000 manufacturing jobs in Ohio. It has put Ohio companies at a competitive disadvantage in tough domestic and global markets, and it has been a major deterrent to attracting new businesses and new jobs to our state. The tax reforms in House Bill 66 will stimulate investment and innovation, create thousands of jobs, and benefit all sectors of the state’s economy. And, every taxpayer in the state will enjoy a 21 percent cut in their Ohio personal income tax. So take a moment to place a telephone call, write a letter, or send an e-mail to say “thank you” to your state legislator whose support for House Bill 66 has brought Ohio one step closer to a tax system that will create jobs, not destroy them. Accepting the award at the associations annual dinner, Representative Gibbs stated he was both honored and humbled. “This is indeed a great honor to accept this award from the ORA” Gibbs said. “Starting and managing a restaurant is one of the hardest business ventures one can begin, and enterprising individuals such as you are what help to make this the greatest state in the nation” Gibbs continued. Representative Gibbs was the sponsor of House Bill 350 in the 125th General Assembly. HB350 provided for civil immunity for the manufacturers and producers of food products from lawsuits stemming from obesity.
